1. Prayers for Peace: Honouring the victims of war by praying for peace

This ANZAC day join together with people of different faiths as we unite over the hope for peace in our lifetime. Prayers for Peace is a multi-faith event including speakers from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhist communities, as well as people of other beliefs and atheists. Bring your family, friends and neighbours and join us for a gathering which will include speeches, music, singing and prayers. Bring a picnic to have afterwards if the weather is good. 3. Emergency Rally for Peace
Saturday 6 May at 2pm – 4pm
Aotea Square, Auckland
The escalation of war and militarism worldwide has made working for peace and justice as urgent and important as ever. The escalation of airstrikes in Syria, the bombing in Afghanistan and the deployment of a fleet to North Korea are all very worrying developments. Instead of standing up for peace, the NZ government is standing behind the US in these actions. Further, the NZ government and Defence Force have doubled down in their cover up of NZ war crimes, with their refusal to investigate the claims made in Nicky Hager’s recent book "Hit and Run". We must use our voices to challenge militarism and work for peace. It is time we stand up to global imperial aggression, investigate our own potential war crimes, and support the victims of wars by welcoming refugees.

4. Disrupting the Narrative: Challenging ideas about New Zealand in WWI
Ongoing everyday through April.
Level 1 at the Auckland Central Library, Lorne Street.
With chillingly drawn links to present day conflicts, this exhibition explores the lesser known aspects of WW1. An examination of the political climate in New Zealand at the time, including widespread opposition to the 1909 introduction of Compulsory Military Training, sets the scene for how the war played out for those New Zealanders who, for ethical, religious or political reasons, did not choose to be a part of this conflict. As an exploration of the myriad reasons history has taught us to avoid war, this pro-peace exhibition is not to be missed. Organised in association with the Art Not War Collective.
