We’re delighted that WILPF International president, Kozue Akibayashi will be joining us for our annual commemoration to mark the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Kozue will also be speaking at a public meeting before the event. Please note that we are holding both events at the same venue. Sunday 6 August – public meeting, 4-5p.m.; candle ceremony, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Some information about Kozue: As well as being the international president of WILPF, she teaches in the Graduate School of Global Studies at Doshisha University in Osaka, Japan. Her specialised area of research is militarism, militarisation, demilitarisation and decolonisation – looking at those subjects using a gender perspective. She is very knowledgeable about the effects of the US military base in Okinawa, Japan. You can read an interview with Kozue just after she was elected WILPF president in 2015 here:
