On Monday 8 December 5 West Papuan schoolboys were killed by Security forces in Paniai, West Papua. A sixth is understood to have died subsequently, and there are also many victims seriously injured. This shocking event has attracted world wide condemnation and protests around Indonesia and internationally.
The boys, who were wearing school uniform,s were taking part in a peaceful protest involving a traditional dance when the joint police and military unit opened live fire into the large crowd.
A demonstration will take place in Auckland – opposite Britomart train station – cnr Queen and Customs St (near Dick Smiths)
12 noon Wednesday 17th December (assembly from 11-45)
We will be signing a letter to go to the new Indonesian President and calling on our own Government to suspend military ties with the Indonesian military.
