State housing tenants meet with politicians tonight

A public meeting has been called in Glen Innes Tuesday 17th June at 6pm in light of the imminent election where housing is a key election issue.

Tāmaki Makaurau has a housing crisis, however this crisis is being displaced and the blame placed on state housing tenants. There is demand for state housing and instead of building adequate supply, the government are decreasing their stock.

This public meeting has been set up in response to the redevelopment of Glen Innes seen to be solving the housing ‘crisis’ and the Social Housing Reforms which systematically attacks state housing tenants and vulnerable people.

The elderly, disabled and sick will not be exempt from Reviewable Tenancies which came as a result of the housing reforms. State housing tenants are being evicted all over Aotearoa, it is time to ask the politicians some serious questions.

Speakers will include Su’a William Sio (Labour), Marama Davidson (Greens) and John Minto (MANA) alongside state house tenants who have been directly affected by the redevelopment and reform.

Tāmaki Housing Group is encouraging state housing tenants and all those concerned with the Social Housing Reforms and the redevelopment of Glen Innes, to come to Glen Innes School, Eastview Road at 6pm and ask politicians the hard questions.
