Sat October 15 – Occupy Aotearoa details & Samoan IRB protest

OCTOBER 15: OCCUPY AOTEAROA, OCCUPY EVERYWHERE
The Occupy Wall Street protest has inspired plans for more than 1,000 of similar events in the US and around the World. Many occupations are planned to begin on Saturday October 15. In Aotearoa New Zealand there are protests and occupations planned not just in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, but even in New Plymouth and Invercargill!
Targeting Wall Street – the symbolic heart of financial capitalism – the protests have become the centre of attention for all those unhappy that the interests of corporations, not the basic needs of people, dominate society. A central message of the protest is that no society can be truly democratic when the richest 1% use their wealth and power to control the rest of us.
Their slogan ‘We are the 99%’ sums up the idea that only unity of the majority can change this situation and bring about a real democracy, where everyone participates and every voice is heard and respected.

SAMOA RISE UP & SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE MANU SAMOA
Samoa Tula’i – this is it! Tomorrow morning we’ll be making history and we want you to be part of this historical moment. Fa’avae i le Atua Samoa. Our nation is founded on God… built on love, service and humility. This Saturday morning is our call to stand up for these values which our parents have raised us to know, to live, and to love. We won’t stand for bias and unfairness anymore and we’re taking our message directly to the IRB. This isn’t the time to get comfortable. Instead, this is the time to get active and make sure our message is heard.
We’re calling our people together to celebrate the achievements of the Manu Samoa in 2011. We’re supporting our brother and son Eliota who’s had the courage to speak out against the unbalanced practices of the IRB. Earlier this week the ‘tier 1’ rugby nations.met to change the scheduling for future world cups as a direct result of public pressure. This is the outcome of the positive pressure that you’ve put on the IRB. Below are articles to remind you of the prejudiced activities of the IRB and we’re urging you to join us on this wonderful day.
We’ll be starting the rally at Emily Place reserve, just 100 metres up the road from the Vero building. There we’ll be opening the day in prayer, singing songs and doing aerobics. Join us for our march to the Vero building where we’ll get to hear from our parents and community leaders. Bring your smiles, singing voices, guitars and laughter as it will be a great morning of fun, laughter and fellowship! Thank you for your support and we look forward to catching up with you this Saturday 15 October at 7.30am. God bless!
