Tamaki Makaurau Rally and March this Saturday 16 August
From Britomart, Up Queen Street to Aotea Square |
|
| We Rally!
We March!
Let’s lift the numbers of people on this Rally and March.
We need thousands of people rallying at Britomart and then marching up Queens Street to Aotea Square to make our politicians hear our voices.
Its been more than 22 Months of the Deliberate Israeli Genocide in Gaza.
Israel has chased Palestinians from one end of Gaza to the other end and back again.
It has destroyed Every Functioning Hospital and through its blockade of Medical supplies, guaranteed Palestinians will die of their wounds.
Over the last few months, Israel has implemented a Deliberate Starvation Genocide of Gaza.
Just the other day, Israel tracked down and Murdered 4 Al Jazera Journalists. Desperately Murdering the Media to stop the Truth getting out.
Join us as we make our call to this indifferent Government heard:
Let Gaza live. Sanction Israel.
Bring your flags, banners and energy as we rally for Palestine.
Spread the word. Bring your family and friends. |

Subject: Transparency on Counter-Terrorism Laws Review
Tēnā koe, Salaam Ali kuum, Greetings Ministry of Justice,
I am deeply concerned about the stakeholder engagement reviewing counter-terrorism legislation (Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, Crimes (Countering Foreign Interference Amendment Bill and other legislation) that had excluded the New Zealand Council for Civil Liberties (NZCCL).
This exclusion:
- Undermines democratic oversight and transparency.
- Ignores risks of laws being misused to target legitimate protest, including solidarity with Palestine, Māori, Muslims affected by the Christchurch massacre, Environmental and other indigenous solidarity struggles.
- Mirrors troubling Western trends where "counterterrorism" stifles advocacy and human rights especially for Palestinians.
I demand the Ministry of Justice:
- Immediately include the NZCCL, Palestinian, Muslim organisations affected by Islamophobic attacks and Māori lawyers and iwi organisations for Te Tiriti context in all consultations.
- Publicly release the stakeholder list and terms of reference.
- Guarantee future reviews are open and rights-respecting including Māori, Palestinian, Muslim, NZCCL and Environmental representation.
- Must not follow other Western governments criminalising dissent for advocacy for Palestine.
- Determine whether the establishment of a permanent FBI office would constitute foreign interference under our current legislation and whether it is in our region’s interest given the US FBI director singling out our largest trading partner and given its horrendous spying and militaristic domestic actions against its own citizens and human rights leaders since inception.
This feedback is to be made available to the public and is not to be redacted. I look forward to hearing from you on the next steps.

| Sodastream Boycott Campaign |
|
| We won the Boycott Campaign against Obela. Now we need to win against Sodastream.
The key target distributor of Soda stream is Noel Leeming. Lets take action.
Stickers and leaflets have been sent around the country for the launch of our SodaStream boycott campaign “Swap out of Sodastream” this coming weekend.
It’s going to be a great campaign which follows on the success of the Boycott Obela campaign from last year.
SodaStream has been a BDS target for many years. It started as an Israeli-owned company but is now owned by PepsiCo although the bulk of production still takes place in Israel for the benefit of the Israeli economy and therefore helps Israel maintain its unlawful occupation in Palestine.
Some centres are intending to write to their local Noel Leeming management to seek a meeting to explain why we want them to boycott SodaStream. (Note: PSNA has already written to the Warehouse Group which owns Noel Leeming asking them to Swap out of SodaStream and sell alternatives – there are at least two – including one made in New Zealand. We have had no response.)
If your local group haven’t received SodaStream leaflets and stickers then please email at Merchandise and we will send them to you pronto! All branches should have these by the weekend.
One of the best features of the Boycott Obela campaign was the weekly newsletter which went out to the whole country with pics and reports of events and actions in the campaign. We will do the same this time with a dedicated section on the campaign in the weekly PSNA newsletter. You can send pics and stories to SodaStreamboycott for the weekly update in the newsletter. |

| An initiative you may want to consider setting up a group in your local community to do:
Matthias Engelke in Büchel, Germany has decided to fast every Friday until the people of Gaza have sufficient food, medicine, and clean water. He says, "The current threat of mass famine in the Gaza Strip requires the solidarity of all people of good will”. He says, “I invite everyone to join this fast and spread the word in their own way." Those participating in the fast can contact Rev. Dr. Matthias-W. Engelke at distelwenk. Let him know if your name can be published in this context.
Please take an empty bowl and spoon to hit it with. Maybe sitting outside your Local MP’s office when they are in town on a Friday or Saturday.
Get some fliers to hand out to people as they visit their local MP. Maybe go into the office to explain what you are doing and leave a flier with them. |

| Are you able to donate a cup of coffee a month to the campaign?
We will need some serious money to make our campaign as effective as possible. For example, we will need somewhere in the vicinity of $25,000 to bring speakers to New Zealand over the next year and organise large public meetings to help spread the message.
You can help. Are you able to donate a cup of coffee a month to the campaign? In other words, can you afford to make an automatic payment of $5 per month to support the Palestinian struggle? (If you can afford more that would be great!)
Our account details are:
Account name: Palestine Solidarity Network
Account number: 38-9015-0849542-00
We are happy to provide a receipt upon request (however, we are not a registered charity so this is not tax-deductible) |

| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Treasury Long-Term Insights Briefing
I worked in the Beehive for 3 years as a Ministerial Advisor, until just after the 2020 election. I’ve seen plenty of Treasury documents. When the latest Treasury Long-Term Insight Briefing was released, I thought it would be another well-thought-through, if occasionally dull, document. Instead, we had what Sir Michael Cullen would refer to as an “Ideological burp”. A blast straight from the past. It’s not often I am lost for words, but this is right up there. |

| In Occupied Palestine daily newsletter – an invitation to subscribe from Leslie Bravery
Because of mainstream news media complicity, daily headlines and commentary only occasionally ever mention the relentless Israeli violence in Palestine, not even the frequent air strikes!
However, daily news and statistics regarding the violence Palestinians are forced to live under are regularly reported on in the “In Occupied Palestine daily newsletter”, sourced and compiled for easy reading and correlation chiefly from the Palestinian Monitoring Group’s daily situation reports.
The In Occupied Palestine daily newsletter continues to be circulated, by email, worldwide to subscribers only, as it has been over the last two decades.
Please contact Leslie if you also wish to become a subscriber. |
