Ngā Toki Whakarururanga is a party to the Waitangi Tribunal Constitutional Kaupapa Inquiry, including the urgency hearing on the Treaty Principles Bill that was reported on yesterday.
Attached is a short briefing primer that puts the “treaty principles” in a historical and contemporary context of Crown violations of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Also the letter of transmission that summarises the Tribunal’s findings – and a cartoon leaflet that Kia Mohio Kia Marama Trust drew up in 1988 challenging Treaty principles that is as relevant today!
Please note that the Crown informed the Tribunal that the proposal on the Treaty Principles Bill will go to Cabinet on 2 September. That means it could ne introduced to Parliament as early as 3 September, just 2 weeks away.
