Three refugee and asylum seeker events

It has been two months since the announcement that we’d have the first increase to the refugee quota in three decades. We’ve been taking a break since then and thinking about where to from here.

At the same time New Zealanders are still interested in the issue and the campaign. To that end Murdoch will be speaking at three events around New Zealand in the next three weeks.

WELLINGTON: This Thursday, 18 August he will join the fantastic panel for the Campaign Launch and Speaker Panel: Asylum Seeker exclusion from NZ’s Services and Support to discuss why NZ does not give the same services to help asylum seekers to succeed as we do for quota refugees. Our friends at Peace Action Wellington and ChangeMakers will also hold an event at Parliament on Thursday the 25th of August seeking justice for asylum seekers in Nauru.

CHRISTCHURCH: Friday 26 August he’ll join another fantastic panel for the WORD Christchurch Migrant Voices session. There he’ll offer a short description of where the double the quota campaign has come from and where it is going.

AUCKLAND: Sunday 4 September he’ll be at Auckland Art Gallery to discuss Shannon Te Ao’s entry into the Walters Prize, including discussion of their work on the boycott of the 19th Sydney Biennial which had been sponsored by one of the companies operating the offshore detention gulag in Nauru until the artists – including Te Ao – stood up against the relationship.
